Meet the Staff

Picture of Correia FamilyJohn Correia, Senior Pastor

John graduated from High School in Newark, CA in 1993 and enlisted in the US Navy in 1995 as a Nuclear-option Electronics Technician. He left active duty status in December, 2002. John is very proud of his military service and wears the title of Veteran with honor.

While on active duty, John accepted Christ on July 26, 1998. He moved to Phoenix with his family after his military service was complete to attend Phoenix Seminary and pursue his newfound passion for the Word of God. He grew academically and especially spiritually, pastoring part-time in the city of Maricopa while attending seminary and working full-time in retail management. John earned a Masters of Divinity in Biblical Communications with High Honors from Phoenix Seminary in May 2006.

John became the Senior Pastor of West Greenway Bible Church in June 2007. In addition to his pastoral responsibilities John is an adjunct professor in the Bible department at Southwestern College in Phoenix, teaching New Testament survey, Biblical Interpretation, Systematic Theology, and Preaching. John also serves on the Executive Council of the Free Grace Alliance and on the editorial board of the Chafer Seminary Journal.

John’s “pastoral passions” are twofold:

  • Helping people understand the Bible one passage at a time and apply the lessons to their own life (geeks call that expository preaching)
  • Helping Christians grow through personal mentoring and modeling (a.k.a. biblical discipleship)

John enjoys studying Ed Parker American Kenpo (a martial art) with his kids, spending time with family, and running; he recently clocked a personal best of 1:57:15 in the San Diego Rock ‘n Roll half marathon. He has been married to his wife, Laura for over fifteen years. John and Laura have four children.

Picture of Compo FamilyJody Compo, Pastor of Worship

Jody was born in Phoenix, but spent much of his childhood in Northern Illinois. His family then moved back to Phoenix in 1995 and began to attend church. When Jody accepted Christ he immediately felt called to the music ministry and then spent several years playing guitar, bass, and drums in the praise team. He then felt called to lead in worship and has had the privilege of leading congregations in worship for the past 8 years and has been the worship leader at West Greenway since December of 2007.

Jody's view of leading worship is simple, to usher the congregation to the throne of the Lord then step back and let Him work.

Jody was married to his wife Jennifer in 1998 and they have two children, Kylie and Ashlynn. Jody enjoys his family, music, and playing basketball.

Picture of Farris FamilyJack Farris, Youth Pastor

Jack grew up in Buckeye, just outside of Phoenix. He came to believe in Christ as a child. At a very early age he felt God calling him to serve Him full time in ministry. Jack earned his undergraduate degree in Biblical Studies at Arizona Christian University in 2008. It was during that time that he met his wife Jenny. In 2011 he earned his Master of Divinity at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.

Jack believes in two key ingredients to leading the youth and others to a close relationship with Christ:

  • An attitude of compassion which Jesus showed to others (2 Corinthians 1:3-11)
  • The ability to listen and hear where people are in order to walk alongside them as they seek to grow closer in their relationship with Christ

In his spare time he enjoys movies, hiking, reading, and playing Nintendo Wii.

Picture of Turner FamilyMike Turner, Pastor of Care and Counseling

Mike grew up just south of San Antonio, TX, in the Uvalde/Crystal City area near the border of Mexico. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A&M University and spent the next 20+ years in McAllen, TX operating an insurance business and assisting his senior pastor as a lay person caring for and helping out those in the congregation.

Mike received his Masters of Divinity – Counseling and Family Degree in 2011 from Phoenix Seminary, where he gave up his insurance career to serve God full time. He continues to attend Ottawa University finishing up a second Master’s Degree in Psychology.

Prior to attending West Greenway Bible Church, Mike served as Pastor in Training at First Baptist Church of Tempe for three years. He developed a ministry for single mothers and their families, a group that continues to be close to his heart.

Mike’s passion is to glorify God through helping others remove barriers that prevent a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Whether it’s marriage counseling, individual, addiction, or family crisis, his desire is to reach the hurting both in the congregation as well as the community.

Mike and his wife, Debbie, have 6 children and 11 grandchildren. He enjoys working in the yard, camping, spending time with the grandchildren, teaching them how to fish and play the guitar (which he himself does not even know how to do!)

But his greatest love is helping people see themselves as God sees them, and watching them move closer to Him.
